This weekend (12th January 2008) the DryShirt UK B14 dinghy made an appearance at the Bloody Mary pursuit race held by the Queen Mary Sailing Club.
After a 6 hour drive south in horrendous conditions we arrived in the area on the Friday night.
The Saturday morning dawned with a WSW forecast of around 10mph.
This was our first B14 event and it was great to meet with the rest of the fleet.
The wind varied from 8mph - 15mph throughout the day and it was clear that the foilers were going to have some great speed around the course that was designed with a fair few close reached.
We started 48 minutes after the first start (Toppers) in light breeze and made a quick call to go left up the first beat.
I think we rounded 3rd in the B14 at the windward mark and the Carbon rigged boats showed a great deal of pace on the two sail reach around the top of the spit.
Our boat handling clearly wasn’t up to scratch and by mark two we had dropped a few more places in the B14's.
The rest of the race consisted of a good battle with 3 other B14's and we were mixing with a few International 14's and the Laser 4000' ISO's etc.
By the finish we had just caught a big pack in the fleet but unfortunately the 2.5 hour time limit was up.
The DryShirt UK B14 finished in 178th position from 259 competitors
